“8 Count – A Suspension of Time”
In celebration of the National Ballet of Canada’s 60th Anniversary, Delane created ‘8 Count – A Suspension of Time’ inspired by John Neumeier’s ballet rendition of Anton Chekhov’s classic play The Seagull. The necklace pendant expresses the ‘tension’ of the complicated relationships in this choreography. This ‘tension’ is illustrated in the pendant by having one pear shape frame the diamond pear in opposite directions.
The diamond pear suspended in the frame of tiny diamonds represents the dancer’s poses that are held for an 8 count or longer allowing the audience to feel the suspension of time. Once the character returns to present time, ‘movement’ is expressed through the second diamond pear, which can freely dance to capture the light. Akoya pearls were selected to give this contemporary pendant a classic feel.

The Centre’s vision was the inspiration of the HOPE pendant. H for Hope. O for Optimism. P for Possibilities. E for Extraordinary. Extraordinary people who care for the children and families they serve in extra ordinary circumstances. The HOPE pendant symbolizes how the Hincks-Dellcrest Centre is a safe place for children to talk about big feelings.
Diamonds adorn the frame that embrace the coloured stones in the centre. The diamonds represent the many individuals at Hincks-Dellcrest who help children and families to be part of a healthy community.
Coloured stones represent the children with big feelings, who feel safe and cared for at the Centre. The space between each stone is the space where change and transformation happens for these children.
White gold was chosen because it combines the sun and moon’s energy for purity and truth. The white gold is a regenerator and a metaphor for the staff at Hincks-Dellcrest Centre helping each child renew the self. The 18karat gold chain holding the pendant illustrates the strength of how a community can hold together children and families.
Delane’s hope is that the pendant reminds the wearer that the Hincks–Dellcrest Centre brings hope to the families they serve.

The Mountain Aven flower grows and thrives in the rocky barren terrain and alpine meadows of Nunavut and the Northwest Territories. In a cold and rugged climate this flower is unique: throughout the day the blossom moves to always to always face the sun.
Delane chose the Mountain Aven flower to represent the women and young girls that, since 1991, the Canadian Women’s Foundation has helped see the light and move out of violence, out of poverty, and into confidence.
Sterling silver commemorates the 25th anniversary of the Foundation and the white pearl symbolizes the best within each of us—purity, spiritual transformation, charity, honesty, wisdom and integrity. For the women and young girls who have experienced violence and poverty, and for all of us, the pearl is a reminder to walk with dignity.
‘See the Light’ acknowledges the wearer’s support of the Canadian Women’s Foundation and is a reminder that adversity is a springboard for change. It’s through this change that each of us become a light for all to see.
